Objective: The increased C-reactive protein (CRP) levels may portend the vulnerability of an atherosclerotic plaque and also contribute to plaque disruption. This study investigate the relationships between serum high-sensitivity CRP level and the extent and severity of coronary artery stenosis in stable angina patients by coronary angiography.
Methods: A total 200 patients undergoing percutaneous coronary angiography are enrolled. They are divided two groups; angiographic coronary artery stenosis group (Group A, n=100) and normal coronary angiogram group (Group B, n=100). The coronary angiograms are evaluated according to three scores: vessel score (0~4 points) stenosis score (1~4 points), and extent score (0~100 points)
Results: Serum CRP level was not significantly different between two groups (group A: 0.26¡¾0.21 mg/dL, group B: 0.19¡¾0.22 mg/dL, P=0.07). Serum CRP level and angiographic data (stenosis score, extent score) showed strong correlation (r=0.408, r=0.308, P<0.01) in group A.
Conclusion: In stable angina patients, serum hs-CRP could not showed significantly high level than normal coronary angiogram patients. But serum CRP and stenosis score and extent score showed significant correlation in group A.
